Beijing, China

We had to leave around 7 a.m. this morning to catch our plane to Beijing. The flight lasted a little less than 2 hours. We arrived around
12:30. Takes longer at the airport than it does to actually fly somewhere. heh
David had business to do today. I met with a guide at 2 p.m. We had a very interested time together. It ends up that he is a
diplomat for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was about 23 or so years old. We had some interesting conversations. I will
have to post about them when I get back into Canada.
It was a fun day. Tired now :) We are going to Tiananmen Square Tomorrow. Tiananmen means "At Heaven's Gates"

oh and everyone should mark this day down on their calendar as the day the next war started. This is the man who says that he will usher in "their" Messiah by
bringing world war.
While the world squabbles about who is and who is not going to slap Iran on the wrist...Iran has announced that they have joined the "nuclear club." SurprisE!

Three months ago Iran announced that they would have a surprise for the world in late March or April. Well SURPRISE.

This is not a surprise to a few of us who have said that Iran already has nuclear weapons and is baiting Israel to attack them. Once Israel launches military action then Iran will respond by sending nuclear weapons into Israel and thus attempting to destroy them. A few nuclear weapons would destroy most of the major city areas of that country.

Iran will then usher in (according to the great and mighty leader - ie Hitler II) the return of their "messiah." Thus bringing an end to the world. His words...not mine.

His announcement was made today (yesterday...depending on when one reads this)

TEHRAN, Iran

Iran has successfully enriched uranium for the first time, a landmark in its quest to develop nuclear fuel, hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Tuesday. He insisted, however, that his country does not aim to develop nuclear weapons.

In a nationally televised speech, Ahmadinejad called on the West "not to cause an everlasting hatred in the hearts of Iranians" by trying to force Iran to abandon uranium enrichment.

"At this historic moment, with the blessings of God almighty and the efforts made by our scientists, I declare here that the laboratory- scale nuclear fuel cycle has been completed and young scientists produced enriched uranium needed to the degree for nuclear power plants Sunday," Ahmadinejad said.

"I formally declare that Iran has joined the club of nuclear countries," he told an audience that included top military commanders and clerics in the northwestern holy city of Mashhad. The crowd broke into cheers of "Allahu akbar!" or "God is great!" Some stood and thrust their fists in the air. [/b]

Manwhile the U.N. and the world continues to bicker about who will slap Iran on the wrist and tell them that they have been very naughty and should stop trying to make nuclear weapons.

Today we are going to Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. Should be interesting.
Located at the center of Beijing City is Tiananmen Square, where you can visit Tiananmen Tower, Monument to the People's
Heroes, Great Hall of the People, and Mao Zedong Memorial Hall.
The granite Monument to the People's Heroes is just at the center of the Tiananmen Square. Built in 1952, it is the largest monument
in China's history. " The People's Heroes are Immortal " written by Chairman Mao is engraved on the monument. Eight unusually
large relief sculptures show to the people the development of Chinese modern history. Two rows of white marble railings
enclose the monument.
The present Tiananmen Square has an area of 440,000 square meters.
The square is also where heavily armed military forces killed several hundred students during the "freedom" movement back in 1989. Student
protestors were ran over by tanks and shot. It is unknown exactly how many were killed. The people here are not allowed to talk about
what happened and are forbidden to mention it. If they talk about it then they will get a visit from "special" people. In trying to
google the incident I get "page not found."
Estimates of civilian deaths vary: 400-800, 2600 (Chinese Red Cross). Injuries are generally held to have
numbered from 7,000 to 10,000. Following the violence, the government conducted widespread arrests to suppress the remaining
supporters of the movement, banned the foreign press and strictly controlled coverage of the events in the Chinese press.
The violent suppression of the Tiananmen Square protest caused widespread international condemnation of the PRC government.
A few photos from today

Me in front of Tiananmen Square - Chairman Mao in the background. He was the founder of the
Communist Party in China. He is also responsible for the deaths of millions of people.

Tiananmen Square

Beijing is preparing for the 2008 Olympics. They seem to be working
on much of the city. Trying to improve the image.

Soldier stands at attention at the entrance of the square. You can see the fire extinguisher
below him. This is in case someone sets themselves on fire in protest in the square.

Did anyone see the movie "Lost in Translation" :) WELLLLLL I think this sign in the elevator
about sums that up. It should read "Don't take lift in case of fire"
It was an interesting day. We also went to the Forbidden City where the last Emperor lived. I will post some pics later of that.
