HORRIFIC TORNADO OUTBREAK HITS THE REGION
23+ Dead - More than 100 injured
VIOLENT TORNADOES RIP THROUGH MISSOURI, ARKANSAS,
TENNESSEE, ILLINOIS, AND KENTUCKY
CARUTHERSVILLE, MISSOURI DEVASTATED
DYER AND GIBSON COUNTIES IN TENNESSEE HIT HARD
MILE WIDE TORNADO CAUGHT ON VIDEO SWEEPS THROUGH
THE MISSOURI BOOTHEEL

SUNDAY - April 2, 2006 (Back home)

Big tornado outbreak has hit the Tri-State area. Numerous reports of damage from tornadoes, high winds, and very large hail.
Was on the phone with a friend in Ballard County when a tornadic supercell moved through the county. You could hear
the hail beating on his car. He had hail slightly larger than golfballs. Major destruction reported in the Missouri Bootheel
and across Western Tennessee. Also major damage reported in Western Kentucky from numerous tornadoes.
Sounds like a lot of hail damage across the Ohio Valley. Reports of hail as large as softballs in Southeast Missouri and in Arkansas.
Very bad tornado outbreak...once again. We can not get a break back home from the destructive weather. Looks bad once again later
this week. More severe weather and tornadoes are likely back home and across the Plains.
Sounds like Caruthersville in Southeast Missouri has been hit hard. Buildings down with people trapped inside of them. At least one
person was killed there. Reports of fatalities in Northwest Tennessee as well. This was from a tornado. Big hook echo on radar
passed through the Lone Oak area and Paducah. Reports that the wall cloud and funnel cloud went right over the city of Paducah. Looks like
they dodged a bullet once again.

-----updated evening
Sobering news that more than 23 people were killed by the tornadoes. Sounds like 18 or more of those were killed in the WPSD TV 6 area. Very sad.
I don't understand what went wrong. There was plenty of warning for the people in the counties that were hard hit. I don't understand why people
don't listen or hear them. I will be very anxious to find out what happened and what went wrong with the system. I am shocked to hear that the
death toll was so high. It was difficult to read the damage reports and the reported fatalities. I am going to guess that we are dealing with a long
tracked violent tornado. I am sure it was at least an F3 and will not be shocked to find out that it was an F4 - the Missouri and Tennessee tornado.
Very bad day for the Paducah, National Weather Service and the Memphis Office. Very bad day for everyone.
I am thankful that my family is all safe. I am getting sick of the severe weather and wish something would change. The last few years have brought
major outbreaks of tornadoes across the PAH region.
I hope the rest of the spring is not like this.
