THE FORECAST PATH FOR DANGEROUS HURRICANE
WILMA

I don't even need to say this - I have never seen a hurricane season like this.  We are now tied with 1933 for the most hurricanes EVER.  We will have more - this will be the busiest hurricane season this nation has ever had to deal with.  OVER ONE MILLION AMERICANS ARE STILL HOMELESS TONIGHT.  THOUSANDS ARE STILL IN SHELTERS AND TENS OF THOUSANDS ARE STILL BEING FED.

The American Red Cross and other agencies are stretched to their limits in both finances and manpower.  ANOTHER major hurricane is about the strike the United States.  God help us.

-----------------

An AMAZING day down here in Biloxi and Gulfport.  We fed over 300 people today off of the ERV I drove.  Ton of children and families.  We managed to work out way down to the beach front area and hit the hardest hit areas.  The people were extremely thankful and happy to see us.  So many people here still need help.  It was a very rewarding today.  I smiled more today than I have in a long time.  I have met some of the most amazing people with spirits that would put the toughest of us to shame.  THESE ARE STRONG PEOPLE down here in Mississippi.  They will overcome this disaster.

Here are some photos from today

I have been assigned to kitchen 30 here in Gulfport/Biloxi.  They are serving thousands of meals out of this kitchen on a daily basis.  They fill the ERVs with food and also feed people that come to the kitchen.  The entire kitchen is outside.

TOMORROW I GO TO THE BAY OF ST LOUIS - THIS AREA WAS HIT EXTREMELY HARD - NOT MUCH LEFT OF THAT REGION OF MISSISSIPPI.

This was my neighborhood that I served today - there were people staying in
some of these places (including tents).  Amazing strength - just amazing!

Storm surge was over 25 feet at this location

INCREDIBLE DAY - I CAN'T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT HOW NICE THE PEOPLE OF MISSISSIPPI ARE.  THIS IS A GREAT PLACE TO SERVE.  I AM SO HAPPY THAT I CAME DOWN HERE.  IT TRULY GIVES ME HOPE WHEN I SEE PEOPLE LIKE THIS!!!!!

WEDNESDAY MORNING

JUST DANG...WILL THE STORMS EVER STOP?

WILMA A CATASTROPHIC CATEGORY FIVE HURRICANE

WILMA BECOMES THE STRONGEST HURRICANE EVER IN THE ATLANTIC OCEAN

MORNING UPDATE...

HURRICANE WILMA DISCUSSION NUMBER 16 CORRECTED NWS TPC/NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL 5 AM EDT WED OCT 19 2005 ...TO USE THE PROPER WORD...RELAYED... IN ADDITION TO THE SPECTACULAR CLOUD PATTERN OBSERVED ON SATELLITE ...AN AIR FORCE RECONNAISSANCE PLANE MEASURED 168 KNOTS AT 700 MB AND ESTIMATED A MINIMUM PRESSURE OF 884 MB EXTRAPOLATED FROM 700MB. UNOFFICIALLY...THE METEOROLOGIST ON BOARD THE PLANE RELAYED AN EXTRAPOLATED 881 MB PRESSURE AND MEASURED 884 MB WITH A DROPSONDE. THIS IS ALL IN ASSOCIATION WITH A VERY SMALL EYE THAT HAS BEEN OSCILLATING BETWEEN 2 AND 4 N MI DURING EYE PENETRATIONS. THIS IS PROBABLY THE LOWEST MINIMUM PRESSURE EVER OBSERVED IN THE ATLANTIC BASIN AND IS FOLLOWED BY THE 888 MB MINIMUM PRESSURE ASSOCIATED WITH HURRICANE GILBERT IN 1988.

WINDS THIS MORNING ARE 175 MPH WITH GUSTS OVER 200 MPH!

WOW

THE MONSTER WILMA

Wednesday Evening...

LET'S ALL CONTINUE TO HOPE THAT WILMA WILL WEAKEN BEFORE SHE HITS MEXICO AND OR THE UNITED STATES.  I TRULY BELIEVE SHE WILL LOSE A LOT OF HER PUNCH IF SHE CAN MAKE IT INTO THE GULF OF MEXICO.  WE ALSO DON'T WANT MEXICO HIT THOUGH.  THAT WOULD BE A BAD SITUATION!

KEEP HOPE ALIVE FOR A WEAKER HURRICANE!!!!

Also ignore my spelling errors and everything...I do good to post let alone correct everything!

Still watching category 5 Wilma.  She is moving westward toward the Yucatan.  There is MUCH disagreement now about where Wilma is going to hit.  Latest forecasts indicate that she might not curve as fast.  This could mean the Wilma will not hit Florida - on the other hand all bets are off.  This is a large hurricane.  I do believe she will weaken over the next 24-48 hours.  Hopefully she won't hit Mexico as a Cat 4 or 5 hurricane.

Time will tell...

I ended up in Bay of St Louis today.  I loaded up my ERV in that town and headed towards Pearlington. Louisiana.  Pearlington is a town of 1600 (or was a town of 1600).  The destruction there is complete with the exception of a school.  Everyone in town is staying/sleeping at the school/shelter or in tents on what is left of their property.  We fed hundreds of people at the school - lots of kids.

The people were so nice - just amazing - again the people in Mississippi are incredible.

I was also in Waveland today.  Another town hit EXTREMELY hard by this hurricane.  The ditches were lined with vehicles flipped upside down.  Dozens of them.

WELCOME TO PEARLINGTON, MISSISSIPPI

THE PEARLINGTON CAFE :)

Pearlington, Mississippi

THIS IS BASICALLY THE ONLY REAL STRUCTURE LEFT IN THE TOWN :(  VERY BAD.

The school...the shelter...the town

This is PEARLINGTON, MISSISSIPPI  :)  WELCOME TO WHAT IS LEFT
OF THEIR TOWN

This is me in Pearlington - the ERV I am driving :)  The people were
great.  Just amazing again...

Car Accident - my van on the way home

No I WASN'T DRIVING :) and everyone was okay.  Thankfully.

There was a truck in front of us that lost something...they were moving from New Orleans.  Whatever it was smashed into the hood of our van and then broke the windshield.  So that was exciting...not.

It was another great day down here in Mississippi.

Thursday, October 20, 2005

Very long day - 16 hours.  Tired.  Had a great day in Bay St Louis and Pearlington.

A lot of people are being sent to Florida from around the United States.  The Red Cross is starting to prepare for Wilma.  It still looks like a Florida hit - after Cancun :(

Mexico is going to get slammed by Wilma - 150 mph winds tonight

WILMA HEADING FOR THE YUCATAN - CANCUN IN THE PATH

This is a photo I took 2 years ago of the hotel strip in Cancun :(  I hope we don't lose Cancun to this thing.  Keeping hope alive :)
